Hey Volters 🚀
Today we will talk about The Right Mindset While Job Hunting
Let me gist you about Ade, you know I like stories 😜
Ade is a 22 years old babe living in mainland, Lagos, Nigeria. She had a decent job, the pay wasn’t crazy, but her company took care of her transport, lunch, and even accommodation. Still, Ade said, “I want more!” So, she resigned. Just like that. Boom, without any other job or side hustle (Crazy right)
She gave herself three months to get that dream role, the one that makes your LinkedIn pop and your bank account smile😃. Here’s what she did while waiting:
- Took a course: She enrolled for a certification aligned with her dream role. It kept her focused and learning and stopped her from binge-watching too many TikTok videos 😜.
- Started a small business: Because bills won’t pay themselves, she tried out a side hustle which only lasted for few months till she spent the profits 🤦🏼. It also helped her stay productive.
- Spoke life into herself by affirming in the midst of her fear and worry: Every day, she visualized herself working in her desired company. “I am her. She is me! 💪🏽 “
But life happened. 😢
Her 3-month plan became a 6-month hustle. She went from “I have it all figured out” to “I don’t know what to do” and couldn’t even afford transport to interviews at some point. 😩 She had doubts, big ones. Thoughts like “Did I mess up by resigning?” came in like JAMB questions. Those questions that you stare at without an answer. She got tired. The waiting became loooong and frustrating.
So, dear Volters, what should you do while waiting for your next big break?
1. Mindset is everything 🧠✨
Your mind is your first battlefield. Say good things to yourself even when the job rejections are flying in. Affirming yourself doesn’t mean you are pretending life is sweet. It means you still have hope, and that’s powerful.
2. Leverage your network (but don’t be a leech) 👀
Yes, your network can open doors. But only your skills will keep you in the room. Respect people. Don’t always pop up in someone’s DM only when you need help. Be kind. Say thank you. Build real relationships beyond your needs.
3. Upskill and reinvent yourself 💻🔁
Use this waiting period wisely. Learn something new. Take that course. Watch free YouTube tutorials. Read. Join webinars. Become the kind of person your dream job is also dreaming of.
Oh, by the way
Ade finally landed the role after 6 months. Passed her certification too. One month into the job, she smashed her KPIs and got a salary bump. Talk about soft life unlocked. 💼💰
You too will get there. Just don’t stop growing while you wait.
Rooting for you always 🌱💚
